That gets a little bit complicated, but the easy way to say it is: "a big chunk of America is going to get $600 back from the government." So we'll run with that nice easy round $600 number. The idea is that it will "stimulate the economy" when you run out and buy stuff with it. Frankly, we have no idea if that's really a valid cure for the economic slump the U.S. is in. It's not our area of expertise. We are, however, experts in spending $600 on geeky stuff you probably don't need but would love to have. Who's leading the conversation?
This visualization below allows you to see the impact that each user has on the current conversation. The top row contains the group of users who have had the most impact, the 2nd row the group of users who have had the 2nd most impact (et cetera). Users with similar impact are grouped together, and the average score of the group is shown to the left of the group. The author of the article is also shown on the left, in their corresponding group. Each user's score is based on the number of comments the user has made plus the number of votes their comments have received. The scores are calculated relative one another, so while their absolute value is not particularly important, their relative difference does indicate a larger difference in impact on the conversation.

Yeah, it would be nice to feel free to spend the money on some electronic toy, but for many people that money would be better spent on things like food or debt. We'll probably put some or all of it toward our emergency fund.

Thank god I have a wife and two kids, that's a lot of debt I'm paying off.
