Tattooed across his sternum are military dog tags that read "Joel's Army." They're evidence of Bentley's generalship in a rapidly growing apocalyptic movement that's gone largely unnoticed by watchdogs of the theocratic right. According to Bentley and a handful of other "hyper-charismatic" preachers advancing the same agenda, Joel's Army is prophesied to become an Armageddon-ready military force of young people with a divine mandate to physically impose Christian "dominion" on non-believers.

Those sounding the alarm about Joel's Army are not secular foes of the Christian Right, few of whom are even aware of the movement or how widespread it's become in the past decade. Instead, Joel's Army critics are mostly conservative Christians

I was going to say, "What's wrong with these people?"
But the answer is obvious - they are brainwashed. This is cult practice at it's core.
And we know that the majority of cults end very badly.

It seems to me that if you take your religion seriously, you pretty much have to end up believing something along these lines. If mankind can't grow enough to get past these superstitions, they might just end up being the death of us all.

I beg to differ on that one, cranky. I take religion seriously but I certainly don't believe anything even remotely resembling what these people 'take seriously'. It is a cult, that's why we designate it as such.

Since to me, all religion is based on unprovable irrational ideas, I'm wondering where you draw the "cult" line?
